Hector Hernandez, Director of Americas Operations for United Barcode Systems, encouraged his team to search the community for nearby schools where we could help.
For several weeks, our human resources staff searched for schools in the areas surrounding the UBS Querétaro offices and chose the 21 de Abril preschool, which they felt had several risk factors for the children.
This year 2022, UBS's annual event instead of just having activities among employees, was changed to a gathering to leave a mark on the community. Most of the staff from all over the country of Mexico attended and performed actions such as planting trees, removing debris and garbage, painting the playground, and preparing the land where the floor and roof will be placed.
However, the actions have not ended here, UBS has also taken charge of the installation of a covered area for the children to have lunch or have small activities under the shade.
In addition, some of our suppliers joined the cause and helped us by providing chairs, furniture and labor to build the roof. Our employees also wanted to contribute their grain of sand, they exchanged the end of the year gifts between employees for candy and didactic books for the children.
After all the work was done, we shared with the parents' committee a simple meal, very common in Mexico, taquitos. Here we had the opportunity to meet the preschool staff and spend time with our colleagues.
Overall, our Mexico team was very happy, they were able to see firsthand how teamwork can change the lives of these 49 children and their parents.
